BAHLA FORT (Oman)
At the base of Jebel Akhdar ("Green Mountain"), one of Oman's highest points, stand four medieval forts, including the immense ruins of the mud-walled oasis at Bahla. It was built in the 12th-15th centuries by the Banu Nabhani rulers of Oman (1154-1624), who ran a thriving frankincense trade. The restored fort is a labyrinth of rooms, towers, and defensive features.
