HWAESONG FORTRESS (South Korea)
King Jeongjo of Korea's Joseon Dynasty built Hwaseong Fortress to protect and honor the remains of his father, Prince Sado. Located 19 miles south of Seoul, it has a wall 3.5 miles long, with four main gates. Two gates and sections of the walls were demolished during the Korean War, and have been rebuilt since 1964 based on contemporary documentation.
