The NE Brazilian coastal town of Sao Cristovao (4th-olderst in the country) was destroyed in the Dutch invasion of 1634 and rebuilt after expulsion of the Dutch in 1645. Churches, a convent, the Provincial Palace, and houses of different historical periods surround the stone-paved Square, creating an urban landscape reflecting the town's Spanish and Portuguese history.
