NEOLITHIC ORKNEY (Scotland)
The Neolithic ("New Stone") Age in England (c. 4000-2,500 BCE) brought farming and sedentary life, permanently transforming the landscape. It's when Stonehenge was built. In the Orkney Islands north of Scotland, four sites have been cited: a passage grave illuminated on the winter solstice, a four-stone "henge," another 60-stone circle, and a village of eight houses.
