THE PITONS (Saint Lucia)
The West Indian island country of Saint Lucia has one UNESCO site: The Pitons ("pegs, nails"), which includes a marine area and two mountainous volcanic plugs or "spires" named Gros (large) and Petit (small) Piton. Their heights differ by less than 200 feet, either side of 2,500 feet; they are joined by the Piton Mitan ridge. Both are easy climbs and popular with hikers.
